SUP ATX boards

Discussion started by Evelyn O'Doherty 3 years ago
Anybody know anything about SUP ATX boards? I have the opportunity to purchase a bundle (6 boards & paddles) from them for $585 each (includes paddle). Are there any forums out there where you can find out about quality, etc. for SUP? This purchase would be for instructional purposes, recreational, flat water. Thanks!

I am very happy with my SUP ATX - I use it in the ocean and in the harbors - I bought an 11' even though at 195# I should probably be on a 12' but it works very well for me - great service - bought it as a scratch and dent from their showroom - it only has a small amount of discoloration that you wouldn't notice unless it was pointed out to you
it's my first board and I will own more but all in all I am very happy with it

Hey, Evelyn! Before I bought my Boga I wanted a Sup ATX BADLY. I did some research and found what you did: they ding easily and some people saw heal marks left in their boards! Boga boards don't ding so much, but they do ding. I love my Boga Classic 11'2 and I am so glad I chose Boga. bogaboards.com

Hey Evelyn!
Yep, all good over here! Figures on the boards. That's usually how it goes. You get what you pay for. As far as my experience with boards go, I own Focus and Surftech and although I really like my Focus boards, I think the Surftech board is sturdier. Again, you get what you pay for. However, I did pay retail for the Surftech board and wholesale for the Focus boards, so I guess with that considered, the boards cost about the same. My friend Matt Ivey, of Adventure Recreation in Redding, CA, uses Pau Hana boards and as far as I know he's satisfied with them. I think he retails them as well as uses them in his tour/rental fleet. Also I think he races one of their touring boards. We've been talking about looking into Wai's boards. They're in Tahoe and Matt has been talking with them some about trying out their products. Around here, other than the Focus and Surtech boards, I see a lot of Starboard sup's. I talked to one of the guys, Hugh, who won the sup division of Surf for Peace here in Eureka back in the fall, and he really likes his. I talked to another guy, a friend of Hugh's, and he has a Starboard and believe it or not a CostCo soft top too! He said he likes the CostCo board a lot considering what he paid for it, $599 i think he said. Keep me posted on the research, I'm definitely interested in your findings!
Happy Paddling and stay warm over there!

Hey Tim!
I did some research and found a forum that pretty much says you get what you pay for with these boards. Specifically, people mentioned that they ding really easily - not great. So, my search continues...

Have started researching Smooth SUP's too. They may be more bang for the buck. I'll keep you informed. Hope all is well on the Lost Coast ;)

Haven't really heard anything about them Evelyn other than what I saw on their website. The prices are definitely competitive and I read that they don't use any paints on their boards which I'm learning to appreciate daily with my own boards. The painted ones show the wear and the paint does add extra weight. I'd like to know more about SUP ATX myself as I may try to break into the retail end of the sup biz soon. Let me know what you find out.
