pump inflatable SUP = Kite pump?

Discussion started by Rein 2 years ago
Is the pump for inflatable sups the same as the pump kiters use?

And are there many differences between pumps and the amount of pressure they can producce(12-20 PSI)?

As far as the pumps go for Inflatable SUP's... You need two kinds of "air pressure" to inflate a standup board.

1). High Volume, and 2). High Pressure.

The high volume will get the board looking mostly inflated, but the high pressure will give it the needed rigidity. Most of the boards I've seen take 12-16 lbs. of pressure to be fully inflated and stiff. Most pumps that come with inflatable boards have the capacity to reach these pressures, but it takes some time and a bit of muscle to inflate completely.

The easiest way, in my opinion, would be to have a small motorized pump to full up the board 80%. Then use the hand pump to achieve the desired psi. I realize this may not be a convenient method if you are without access to a car's cigarette lighter or battery operated pump (like one used for an air mattress)

To answer the above question... I'm not sure, but if the kite pump can inflate to that pressure and the attachment nozzle fits, then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I'm no expert, and would love to hear other opinions that may very well educate me further.
