    SUP Insurance
    laura burgreen

I tried Outdoor INS but the pricing was outrageous. From what Ive seen they cant offer coverage in a lot of areas. Surferinsurance.com offered me a low cost policy with favorable coverage and was a snap to work with. Just what I was looking for...

    Injuries in SUP
    Andre Niemeyer

Jena, I think Nikki nailed. It's not just the thought of technique, but training, training, ... and then training some more for long and rough conditions. It seems that when I'm exhausted I can be thinking technique all day long but my muscles are just darn too tired and not quite responsive as I want them to be.

    SUP Weight Loss Stories
    Marko Bartscherer

Hi, I lost like 20 pounds between SUP kiteboarding and a better diet, last year. This year work kept me from getting out on the water as much as I want, so the weight came back, I guess its time to get back out there. Beside the physical exercise, it really get's your mind to put things in perspective, after a day that started with a SUP session nothing can bother me anymore. Here is a story I had before I started this, the gym at work had a free personal trainer session and consulting. I went to it thinking great, I am sure their are some exercises that would be good to complement what I do on the water. The guy told me that surfing, kiteboarding and SUP are no real exercise, and I should go to the gym everyday instead. Well let's just say I try to go SUP everyday and haven't been to the gym much.

What year did you begin stand up paddling?
    Marty Hickman

I just started SUP this year. I found out that the doctors think I am type 2 diabetic, so I started SUP as a way to get in shape. SO far I have lost 14 lbs in 2 months and have dropped my blood sugar A1C test from 11.8 to 6.5. I am hooked and since joining SUP in April I have 2 boards and am looking at getting a couple race boards. SUP has not only changed my life but has helped to save it as well.

SUP Racing and Self Talk: What Gets You Through the Tough Times?
    Chris Echezabal

When things start to crumble I use a pretty simple technique I read from an interview with Peter Reid, Hawaii Ironman champion. When things get hard during the marathon Reid counts his foot steps from zero to twenty, and then starts over again, and then does it again, and again, until he's out of the tricky spot or done with the race. So, during a hard SUP session, usually when I'm trying to keep up with John Denney or Jeff Webber disappearing over the horizon, I just count paddle strokes. It's a very "Zen" practice and gets you right back into the moment....even though you sometimes puke anyway :)
