Newquay may be famous for being the party town of Cornwall, but it's also a hub for water sports such as surfing and paddle boarding. Crantock Beach is the most popular spot for paddle boarding in Newquay. Nestled just outside Newquay, Crantock is an expansive beach with crystal-clear waters. With the River Gannel flowing right through it, it offers plenty of opportunities for a paddle board, whether looking to catch some waves or paddle through the estuary.

 

Crantock Beach, managed by the National Trust, contains all you need for a fun day at the beach, including two parking lots. These are only a short walk to the beach over the dunes. The scenic walk features spectacular coastal views and the Gannel and Pentire Headland. If you don't have a paddleboard, you can rent one from a rental shop near the parking area. Those staying within Newquay can walk towards the north side of the estuary. It should take around 25 minutes. 

 

Since the River Gannel is tidal, ensure you set off at the right time. The best time for paddleboarding at Crantock is within a few hours before the high tide, and then you can return once the tide turns. While it's known as the foodie capital of Cornwall, those who come here to enjoy water sports like paddle boarding will not disappoint. In fact, you will find plenty of beaches in Padstow that offer the perfect setting for paddle boarding.  

 

Harlyn Bay is one of Padstow's most popular beaches for paddleboarding. It's also home to a surfing school offering amenities and lessons for different water sports. They provide surfboards, paddleboards, and surf lessons. You can also rent a kayak if that's what you prefer. There's also the option of coasteering. Whatever sports you want, you'll find them at Harlyn Bay.

 

Having a reputation for being one of the safest beaches in Cornwall, Harlyn Bay is also famous among families with kids. Between April and September, there is a lifeguard stationed at the beach. While here, check out the “Pig” at Harlyn Bay. It's a fantastic restaurant in a 15th-century building famous for serving delectable meals made from fresh local ingredients.

 

Porthcurno Beach is a beautiful, triangle-shaped white sandy beach in Cornwall, surrounded by rocky cliffs and lapped by turquoise waves. The little wedge of paradise is a popular hub for water sports, sunbathing, and simply relaxing while enjoying the stunning landscapes. 

 

Protected from large swells, Porthcurno Beach is ideal for families with kids. There's a lifeguard on duty, operating from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You'll find a cafe near the car park if you need to relax and enjoy snacks after a day of paddle boarding. You can also bring your food and have a picnic by the beach.

 

At the western section of Porthcurno Beach, you'll find steps cutting into the cliff, where you'll find the beautiful Minack Theatre. The views over the outdoor theatre across the ocean are very captivating. You can watch shows between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and tickets cost as little as £20, depending on the show. You'll find another beautiful beach near the Minack Theatre, Porthchapel Beach. Since it's slightly remote, it's not as busy as Porthcurno Beach.

 

 

Sennen Cove is one of Cornwall's most popular spots for surfers and paddleboarders, featuring superb coastal views. However, since the swells can be strong, paddle boarding is only suitable on calm days. What's fascinating about paddleboarding in Sennen Cove is that you could come across resident seals hiding in a secluded cave nearby. 

 

Situated in Cornwall's most south-westerly part, Sennen Cove is one of the closest places to Cornwall's iconic landmark, Land's End. It's about eight miles away from Penzance, near Porthcurno. Those not keen on water sports will find deck chairs for hire along the beach. It's perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sea views and a small fleet of fishing boats. Sennen Cove is also part of the South West Coast Path hiking trail. If you want to go hiking after spending time in the water, you can pick up the trail from here and walk towards the stunning Penwith Heritage Coast.

Nestled in the rugged far west corner of Cornwall, Penzance is a vibrant market town home to beautiful beaches, which are among Cornwall's most popular spots for paddle boarding. The charming port town exudes eccentric charm, with plenty of opportunities to get active with water sports. There are various launching options for a paddle board in Penzance. One is the Abbey Slip, which offers easy access to the crystal-clear and calm waters of Penzance Harbour, although you have to time your activity right to ensure there's enough water to get back. You can drop off your gear and park at the nearby Harbour Car Park.

 

Another popular spot for paddle boarding in Penzance is Wherrytown, only a short walk through the promenade. You can launch towards Penzance and the Jubilee Pool in a single direction or into Newlyn from the other direction. Those feeling adventurous and having plenty of time to spend in the water can head towards Mousehole. After spending the day in the water, check out some of the top restaurants in Penzance. You'll find some of the best dining spots along the seafront, where you can dig into delicate dishes based on meat and seafood.
