The RedBull Heavy Water event is not going to be for the faint of heart and only the best stand up paddle racers in the world were invited due to the hazardous conditions. The folks at the Waterman League who are helping to put on this event met up with a few key people from these departments to hear more about just what the riders will face and what they are doing to be ready. Course maps for the second annual Pacific Paddle Games presented by Salt Life have been set and include some exciting new updates from last year’s inaugural event. The preeminent paddling event, offering a $60,000 prize purse, will take place at Doheny State Beach, a California State Park in Dana Point, Sept 30 through Oct. 2.
As an official stop in the 2016 Stand Up World Series, Red Bull Heavy Water has started the holding period as of September 1st. The holding period will guarantee 40 of the world’s best SUP athletes waves over 10ft. on an open course that stretches 12km (7.5 miles), starting at Ocean Beach and finishing just past the Golden Gate Bridge.
4th Annual Beyond the Shore Paddlefest presented by Kinecta Federal Credit Union will be lead this year by pro SUP athletes Danny Ching, Candice Appleby and Slater Trout to raise awareness and funds for charity partners: Surfrider Foundation South Bay, Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Surftech athletes dominate the 2016 Catalina Classic with a first place finisher in every class. Max First won the unlimited division, Lachie Lansdown defended his 2015 stock class title with a 2016 first place finish and Abby Brown won the women’s stock class pulling off the "Single-Double” (winning the M2O and Catalina Classic in the same month).

The 2016 Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge was a huge event with heavy competition. It was the largest contingent of elite competitors getting together at one event for this entire year - in both the men’s and women’s fleet. Here, Connor Baxter recaps the weekend and his win at the event.
