Paddle Boarder Attacked by Shark in Hawaii

On Saturday morning, March 31, 2018, a 25-year-old man was paddle boarding off the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii and was attacked by a shark. According to reports by Big Island Now the man was paddling about 100 to 150 yards offshore when he was attacked.

Paddle Boarder Survives Shark Attack Off Cape Cod Beach

Cleveland Bigelow was paddle boarding at Marconi Beach on Wednesday when a shark attacked his paddle board in only three feet of water. Thankfully the shark only took an exploratory bite on his board, and knocked the 69-year-old paddle boarder off of his board.

Kawika Matsu is currently recovering from a great white shark attack while paddle boarding in the Mid-Atlantic last week. While paddling off the coast of Ascension Island, the shark knocked Matsu off his paddle board and into the water, when it proceeded to bite him several times.

Leading Shark Scientists Confirm Shark Shield’s Effectiveness

An independent peer reviewed research paper, published in the international science journal PLOS ONE has confirmed Shark Shield as an effective shark deterrent. The research was conducted over a two and half year period at a cost of $680,000, funded by the Western Australian State Government as part of its investment in Shark Hazard Mitigation, following a spate of shark attacks in 2012.

Paddle Boarder Collides With Jumping Shark

At Corners, Carlin Park, in Jupiter Beach, Florida paddle boarder Maximo Trinidad had quite the run in during his lunch break. While SUP surfing, out of nowhere a jumping shark collided with Maximo and knocks him off his board, scaring the living daylights out of him!

New Shark Shield Shark Deterrent Coming To Market

Shark Shield has successfully completed the development of a new shark deterrent for surfers that was part funded by the Western Australian Government’s Applied Research Program (ARP). The company was provided with a $300K grant over 2.5 years to develop new technology to protect surfers following a spate of shark attacks in 2012. Aggressive Shark Encounters With SUPs Being Reported On Maui

When we enter the oceans and waterways we are entering a realm in which we do not control. The creatures that call these bodies of water home are the true masters and we are merely taking a step, or in this case, paddle into their world. It is somewhat unsettling to report that in the waters off Maui, Hawaii there have been multiple incidents lately involving sharks becoming aggressive with paddle boards. Hawaii News Now reports that on Saturday January 23, 2016 a shark had bit a tourist’s paddle board about a half mile off the coast of Maui in Wailea.
