6 Exciting SUP Events Today

Thursday, May 31, 2012 Stand Up World Tour Main Event Start

 

SAN DIEGO, California - Once again there are stand up paddle events spanning the globe but this weekend many paddlers will focus on what is happening in Tahiti, Florida, North Carolina, Hawaii, California and Oregon.

 

Stand up World Tour, Tahiti:

Once again the stand up world tour is up and running.  Yesterday the main event was on hold as the athletes waited for better conditions, but today will be a new story and it will be exciting to see what the contest has in store for some of the worlds best SUP surfers. Paddle for Humanity, Deerfield Beach, Florida:

This year the Paddle for Humanity will have a 5k race, and a 10k competition as well as the now famous Chuck Patterson Rally Race.  It will be a day full of fun and variety.  The first races (5k & 10k) will begin at 9am but for those of you who are not early risers, be sure to make it on time for the Rally Race which begins at 11:30am.  The event will conclude with lunch, awards, raffle and an after party at 12:30pm.  It's fun for the entire family.  See details here: Paddle for Humanity, Deerfield Beach

 

OBX Paddle Palooza, North Carolina:

This is a 3 day event full of fun times for the entire family.  Yesterday it began with a sup fitness clinic and paddle clinic, but don't worry because there is plenty more fun to be had today and tomorrow with races, games, fun, food, yoga, music and an expression session.  It is being held at Frisco Woods Campground and will begin with races at 8:00 am but will offer fun all day long.  For all the details on this paddle event click here: OBX Paddle Palooza

 

3rd Annual Surf n Sea Haleiwa SUP Race, Hawaii:

The Surf n Sea Haleiwa event says aloha from the North Shore!  They are excited that summer is beginning and are kicking off the season with a SUP Race happening today at 8:45 am.  There will be a kids relay race and a chance to demo boards. Many prizes will be won during a raffle including sup products, clothing, sunglasses, paddles, gift certificates, & a brand new Surftech SUP board!!!  So get out and get ready to have a great time.  More information at: 3rd Annual Surf n Sea Haleiwa SUP Race

 

Hobie/Hennesseys Waterman's Challenge National Race, California:

This is a big deal! This is a US Championship event with Pro Courses that are 6, 8 or 9 miles long depending on the board class.  There will also be a fun course of 4 Miles.  The race will start and finish by the Doheny Main Lifeguard Tower and the elite races are expected to have a beach start and finish. The recreational races are most likely going to be water starts and beach finishes. The board classes for the event will include12' Stock Paddleboard -(No Rudder), Unlimited Paddleboads,12'6 & Under Stock Stand UP -(No Rudder), 14' Stand Up (No Rudder), Unlimited Stand Up and Surfboard Stand Up - (see rules for definition).  It will be intense and include some of the best in the world, so join the fun.  Details at: Hobie/Hennessey's Waterman's Challenge National Race

 

2012 Ross Island SUP Series (part 2), Oregon:

The event will be at Oaks Amusement Park in Sellwood with a race start at 10:00 am.  The elite racers will paddle for 8.3 miles doing 2 laps around an island.  The first lap will be clockwise and then countercolckwise on the second.  The recreational race will do just one lap and the organizers are welcoming any type of board into the race.  This sounds like lots of fun with opportunity for everyone but it is important to know that a USCG approved PFD (personal flotation device) is required for everyone involved in the race.  More information can be located here: Ross Island SUP Series
