MAUI, Hawaii - The 8th Annual Maui Paddle Championships is set for Sunday July 21, 2013. ·With a new event website, and an updated name (formerly included Naish in the title) the race directors are counting down to the big day where hundreds will gather to do battle on a world-renowned course known as the “Maliko Run”.
This inspiring event is a nine-mile race along the coast between Maliko Gulch and the Kahului Harbor. It is an extremely difficult course and the official event website explains that, "(it) is completely exposed to the same blistering trade winds that make Ho¹okipa Beach one of the world¹s best windsurfing venues." With this in mind, the Maui Paddle Championships will no doubt be a battle between racers but also with the elements.
With only about 2 months remaining, the time is quickly approaching for the rest of the world to converge and compete for prestige and prize money. Race co-directors John Gangini and Blair Thorndike expect the 2013 event to be even bigger and better than ever and look forward to welcoming some of top paddlers in the world.
