Stand Up Paddle Video of the Week - 9.4

During one of Dave Anderson's daily trips out off the coast of Dana Point, he and his customers were treated to a rare sight, a stand up paddleboarder! Ok, not just a stand up paddleboarder but a pod of blue whales too.

Check out last week's SUP video.

DANA POINT, California - Adam Crawford was 2.5 miles off the coast of Dana Point when Dave’s boat came upon him and a pod of blue whales.

What began as a normal sighting of whales for Capt. Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari crew and customers became a bit more interesting with the addition of a solo stand up paddler.

Quick on his feet, Anderson pulled out a camera and began recording, catching some exciting images of a blue whale’s fluke as it dove roughly twelve feet in front of Crawford.

Crawford, an avid stand up paddler from San Clemente, California, has had his share of wildlife encounters but this one may stand out in his mind for quite some time. “I still get goose bumps thinking about it. It was amazing,” said Crawford during an interview with the Today Show on August 13th.

After the video was posted by Anderson, it received a lot of local and national attention. Then New York called. The Today Show wanted to hear all about Crawford’s amazing encounter and offered to fly him and Anderson out to do an interview.

“It’s just burned into my memory as one of the most exciting things I’ll ever see,” says Crawford.

After spending the first part of her life in Minnesota, Morgan traded in her snow boots for sandals and moved to sunny California. After graduating with a degree in Communication from The University of Southern California, she eventually made her way down south to San Diego and is taking advantage of the living by the best beaches and burritos California has to offer. If it’s sunny, you can find her at the beach relaxing, or exploring the calm water in the bay via paddleboards and kayaks.
