SANTA CRUZ, California - This past weekend the Surftech Shootout, a popular stand up paddle race and surf competition, was held in northern California at Steamer Lane which is one of the most famous surfing locations in the world. ·It is fitting then that in the process of broadcasting the competition via a live webcast, the Supconnect team accomplished another world wide feat!
Over the course of Saturday and Sunday March 23-24 2013, Supconnect delivered the first High Definition webcast that the stand up paddle world has ever seen and although it was a first, the success of the broadcast was through the roof! On Sunday afternoon the Surftech Shootout webcast was featured on the home page of Ustream, the world's number one webcast website, as the "Spotlight" broadcast. At that time the Surftech Shootout webcast, which used the social media hashtag of #SurftechSO13, was number one in the world and had over 23,000 plus unique viewers!
Andre Niemeyer, Supconnect president and founder said, "The success of the webcast was beyond my wildest imagination. We have over 2 years of experience in webcasting and probably thousands of hours of research under our belt. But that means little in light of what we accomplished over the weekend, together with a phenomenal partnership with Surftech."
"As a result, the Shootout webcast had over 23,000 unique viewers and brought stand up paddling to a whole new and mainstream demographic, marking yet another milestone for the sport, alongside feats such as features on the New York Times, People Magazine and such. The unwavering support of Surftech to organize that event, the caliber of the athletes, and the prestige of the venue set an excellent stage for the webcast. That was a winning formula when combined with Supconnect's production, featuring full HD and and also SD streaming, completely custom graphics, instant replays, multiple PIP displays and much, much more. To sum it up: we're thrilled to have been a part of this milestone for the paddleboarding community," concluded Niemeyer.
With a webcast team of only about 6 people and a few volunteers, Supconnect has a proven that they have a winning formula and certainly look forward to providing many more webcasts for stand up paddle events and other venues.
For those who missed the webcast or just want to watch it again, it is possible to play back the webcast by going to the Supconnect Ustream Channel. There are multiple clips that were available on demand just minutes after the action was first caught on film and continue to be available for everyone to enjoy.
Finally, Supconnect would like to thank all their sponsors who helped make the Surftech Shootout webcast possible and also all the stand up paddle websites who partnered in sharing the webcast including SUP magazine, The Standup Journal, SUP Gladiator and SUPracer.
