Paddle Board Highlights

Who is it for?

If you’re looking for an incredibly compact, lightweight inflatable paddle board that is ideal for transportation and ease look no further. The Compact from Red Paddle Co is a revolutionary design in paddle boarding as it’s the most compact board on the market. Fitting into a bag that’s the size of a backpack, the Compact is great for paddlers who love traveling with their boards or for those living in Urban areas with no space for a composite SUP in their home or car. The board weighs just over 17 lbs making it very lightweight and easy to carry and is a great option for someone looking for an all around board to paddle short distances or for cruising around the shoreline or dock. Retailing at $1,899, the Compact does sit in the high price point tier but is a premium option and the choice for someone looking for the most compact, quality package available

First Impressions

The Red Paddle Co Compact is no doubt the most portable paddle board on the market today. The board is incredibly lightweight and fits its entire package (board, paddle, pump, leash) in a bag that's about half the size of all other SUP bags on the market, making it quite the design feat! This board is incredibly well thought-out. The paddle has an amazing finish and the board has simple, classic Red Paddle Co graphics on the deck and rails. Now here's the thing: if you want an all around inflatable that is super easy to carry that you can throw on your back and it feels like a regular backpack, then this is the board. But, if you're on the heavier side (weighing north of 190/200+ lbs), this might not be the best fit for you. This is because part of the design to make it lightweight takes some volume out of the board and makes it a little bit thinner on the rails making it more difficult to float the heavier paddlers which results in a board that is not as stiff or strong when paddling it which could result in a poor experience. However, if you are a more lightweight paddler looking for portability this is the best inflatable you can buy.

Benefits

  • Primary Use

    All Around

Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines

  • Durability

    Very Durable

Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.

  • Carrying

    Very Easy

Carrying ease is determined by board weight and handle type, where a board weighing under 20lbs with a Liftsup handle is extremely easy to carry while a 35+lbs board quite difficult.

  • Stability

    Stable

Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.

  • Glide

    Average

Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.

Features

  • Dimensions

    9'6" x 32" x 4.7"

Industry standard in board dimensions reads: L (length, from nose to tail) x W (width, from rail to rail at midpoint length), and H (height, from top to bottom of board at midpoint length).

  • Weight

    17.6 lbs

Standup paddle boards tend to fall into 4 different weight classes: extremely lightweight (under 20 lbs), lightweight (20-28 lbs), average weight (28-35 lbs), heavy (above 35 lbs).

  • Volume

    222 L

Volume is a key metric to determine how much weight a board can carry. Boards w/ 200+ liters offer most floatation with boards under 150 liters typically for high-performance surf.

  • Capacity

    209 lbs / 95 kg

Capacity is the max cargo weight a stand up paddle board can carry, considering not only the paddler’s weight but whatever else the paddler may choose to carry alongside him/her.

  • Add On's

Bungee Nose, D Ring, Paddle Included, Leash Included, 2 fins included

Add-on’s include bungee cords, a minimalist way to haul things; Connexsup, which allows for all sorts of attachments, even fishing rods; and FCS II/Connect, for easy fin install.

  • Handle

    Strap

Handles directly affect carrying ease, with external grip handles (Liftsup & EZgrab) offering most comfort, Internal Ergo Grip the mid-tier comfort, and box handles as least comfortable.

  • Holders

    No

Fishing rod holders and/or paddle holders can make paddling that much more pleasant, esp. when needing holders for the rod or having a safe place for the paddle during yoga.
