Athletes from all over the world, including Germany, USA, Spain, Great Britain, Mozambique, Algeria and France, have already registered for this year’s inaugural International Canoe Federation Stand Up Paddling World Championships in Portugal.

The International Surfing Association (ISA) has announced that Wanning, China will host the 2018 ISA World StandUp Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship from November 23 – December 2.

Now in a recent turn of events, the Portuguese Surfing Federation has made a statement saying that the ICF and this event will not take place because it is simply against the Portuguese Laws.

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has expressed hope a resolution will be reached with the International Surf Association over the management of Stand Up Paddling (SUP) activities before the ICF hosts its first SUP World Championships in Portugal later this year.
