LAHAINA, Hawaii – With last year’s Surf & SUP Survivorship Camp a huge success, Athletes 4 Cancer heads into the second year of camps, boosted in part by a partnership with Team Duke and fundraising efforts at this year’s Tenacity Games. The first camp runs from October 20th – 26th and the second camp runs from October 30th – November 5th.

With the generous support of the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and funds raised at SUP 4 Cancer, Athletes for Cancer launched the ocean-based healing programs to foster self-confidence and strengthen survivorship in young adults as they face life after cancer.

The camps were designed to present cancer survivors with challenges in the ocean that each individual chooses to embrace with support and motivation from staff and their peers. Experienced instructors from Action Sports Maui provide athlete survivors with a solid foundation of surf and ocean safety fundamentals with daily focal points and exercises, but also allow them the freedom to explore and learn on their own.

The Pacific Cancer Foundation and the Lae'ula O Kai Canoe Club combine efforts in providing the survivors with a unique Hawaiian experience by hosting an introduction to outrigger canoeing out of Kanaha State Park.

In appreciation and support of the mission of the Pacific Cancer Foundation, Athletes for Cancer selected the Foundation to receive a $2500 grant from its annual fundraiser, The Tenacity Games and SUP 4 Cancer.

Morgan Becker

After spending the first part of her life in Minnesota, Morgan traded in her snow boots for sandals and moved to sunny California. After graduating with a degree in Communication from The University of Southern California, she eventually made her way down south to San Diego and is taking advantage of the living by the best beaches and burritos California has to offer. If it’s sunny, you can find her at the beach relaxing, or exploring the calm water in the bay via paddleboards and kayaks.
