CARLSBAD, California - The 2012 Boardworks Surf "What's Your Move?" stand up paddle video contest was another great success! The contest is always a fun way to see new SUP Moves from some of the most innovative, talented and creative paddlers across the world.
This year there were 32 entries that made the final cut and hundreds of votes poured in indicating who should win the title of the best Stand Up Paddle Move of the year. The most exciting moment of the contest came with just about 13 hours left on the clock.
With little time remaining, the video titled "Boardom" had a total of 36 votes while "Surfwreck" was in second with 32 and "Backflip" had 21. Most people thought the race was between "Boardom" and "Surfwreck" as there were only 4 votes that separated them. However, as tweets and facebook reminders flew out across social media announcing that the contest was winding down, a rush of voting took place which ultimately crowned the champion.
By the end of the contest, "Backflip" by Zane Schweitzer had clearly taken first place with a total of 62 votes. This incredible move shows the young and agile Zane pulling off a full backflip which begins and ends on a SUP in the open ocean.
In second place was "Boardom" which featured the talented stand up paddle yoga guru, Lauren Peterson, doing an incredible balancing act on top of a foam roll and an inflatable SUP.
Third place was won by "Surfwreck" with Todd Caranto who showed the sup skills involved in trying to remain standing while dodging other SUP boards from just about every direction possible. The video was actually filmed during an amazing world record attempt at having the most people SUP/surf the same wave at the same time during the conclusion of the Battle of the Paddle 2012.
Each of these three winners will receive great prizes! Zane will receive a New Mini Mod stand up paddle board and Kelvar Paddle, while Lauren gets a paddle, hoody and hat. Todd will also receive a hoody and hat!
Boardworks Surf would like to extend a special thank you to all those people who submitted video entries and who took the time to vote and help spread the stoke of the contest.
