CRETE, Greece - As a new but quickly growing sport in Greece, SUP surfing had its first event, the SUP Style Challenge by Nixon, organized by WBSF, on July 28 this year. The competition took place at beautiful Falassarna Beach in Northern Crete, offering a full day of waves and wind for competitors.
Prior to the event, news of great waves hitting the shores in Falassarna started circling. The event’s organizers were off to work trying to get the event arranged quickly to capitalize on the surf conditions. As a last minute request, race director of the UK Professional Surf Association, Dave Reed, flew out to join the event as a Head Judge in his first-ever trip to Greece. The competition turned out to be a great showing for participants and a fun all-around event for everyone in attendance.

- KARAISKOS THANOS
After getting their feet wet with this exciting first SUP surf event, it’s clear that this won’t be the last for Greece. All parties involved hope that this initial competition will be the first of many more to come. Check out the video recap of the event below.
