LAKE ELSINORE, California - Bret Warner started Stand up to Alzheimer’s in 2013 as a way to help cope with his father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Every year he has said he wouldn’t run another one, to which he listened the first time and took two years off, but after several location changes and help from the paddling community we are now a month away from the third event. This time it is being hosted at La Laguna Boat Ramp and Resort in Lake Elsinore on July 9, 2017. The event is partnering with the new Elsinore Aquatic Center with the goal of not only raising money for Alzheimer’s, 100% of profits go to Alzheimer’s research, but also showing what a great paddling spot Lake Elsinore is.
Inland So Cal has so much untapped potential for paddling. Every lake has potential hardcore paddlers on it every weekend, they just need someone to tell them they are paddlers. Hopefully, Stand up to Alzheimer’s can be the event that converts many of them. There will be beginner boards and 2-person kayaks to rent if one is needed, and there will be a short course of just under 2 miles, and a nature paddle for those who want to get on the water and support Alzheimer’s research, but do not want to compete.
Profits will go to the Alzheimer's Association, who will also have representatives to share information about Alzheimer’s and Dementia research at the event. So please join us in doing our own small part to fight against Alzheimer’s.
