MAUI, Hawaii – The OluKai Ho’olaule’a two-day ocean festival returns to Kanaha Beach Park Maui, May 14th -15th, 2011. SUP and OC1 paddlers will have the opportunity to race the legendary 8-mile Maliko downwind course on Maui’s North shore, with elite racers vying for a piece of the $15,000 gender-equal prize purse. Paddlers who register online at http://www.olukai.com/Hoolaulea by May 4th will receive the Premium Race Package including luau dinner, technical race jersey, and OluKai sandals. Complimenting the competitive paddle races, OluKai has confirmed a schedule of free, family-friendly activities including ancient Hawaiian games hosted by Maui Cultural Lands, sailing canoe rides by 2010 HSCA Champions Team Kamakakoa, traditional luau dinner, hula performance and a concert headlined by special musical guest, Paula Fuga on Saturday, May 14th at 4:00 PM.
Paula, a Hawaiian vocalist, has a genuine connection to the islands, showcased both through her music, and daily life, actively devoting her time to the island community. In 2010, Jack Johnson embarked on a tour with Paula playing a range of venues throughout the world with one hundred percent of the tours profit donated to charity. Paula is a recipient of Hawaii’s prestigious Na Hoku Hano Hano Award for her passionate, well-respected music. Follow Supconnect on Facebook.
“We are excited to showcase one of Hawaii’s musical icons,” says Kerry Konrady, Marketing Director at OluKai. “Paula Fuga’s music, both powerful and soulful, reflects the spirit created at the Ho’olaule’a.”
The event will be broadcast nationally to 50 million households on Universal Sports, an NBC sports partnership. OluKai and Ocean Paddler TV are excited to showcase the incredible skill, endurance and dedication of the world’s elite paddlers while offering unique insight into the authentic culture that surrounds the Hawaiian ocean paddling community.
Part of the proceeds from the OluKai Ho’olaule’a go to the OluKai ‘Ohana Giveback Program. Beneficiaries include Maui Cultural Lands and the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association’s Junior Lifeguard Program.
