Stand Up World Series Championships Start Today

Stand-Up-World-Series-Championships-2012

OAHU, Hawaii - This weekend don't forget to keep an eye on the Stand Up World Series.  The World Championship Finals are this Friday through Sunday at Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu.

For those who are not yet familiar with the World Tour, each of the events has two races which include a long distance race and a short course.  The longer race can be between 7 and 20 miles long and will vary depending on the water and weather conditions at the time.   The short races are fast and exciting and typically last between 10-12 minutes.  They are run in heats and through a process of elimination, the first man through the line in the last heat is the winner!

This weekend will mark the 15th event of the series this year but not all the athletes need to travel to each event.  As explained by the Stand Up World Series, "Athletes' best 3 results from the Series will count towards their overall ranking, making it possible for region specific qualification for the world championship finals and a truly global field of competitors."  The organization also has explained that the athletes scores from their best 3 results will make up 50% of their overall annual world title score.  The final 50% will be determined by exclusively by the world championship final event.  This is why it will be so exciting to see who joins in the fun at the finals this weekend.  There is a lot on the line.
