PADDINGTON BASIN, London - On Friday September 12th, 2014, the inaugural Standup for the Cure UK Event in London was planned and organized in London by Paul Hyman, Phil Sayers and Emily Yoon, leaders of Active 360., in partnership with Judie and Rob Vivian from the USA. Great support from Active 360s merry band of volunteer Race Marshals, Yoga instructors and Pilates instructors made the whole event a huge success.

Delicious cool drinks, generously provided by Alice at Alibi, quenched the thirst of the SUPers and the team from Jobe Paddleboards lined up a fleet of demo Paddleboards for the participants to try.

Joanne Hamilton-Vale, the British SUP Champion, gave a great tech talk on racing tips and a SUP demonstration before racing against Judie and Emily (giving both a sweet starting time advantage!) Natalie from Breakthrough BreastCancer shared important data regarding breast cancer - 50,000 women in the UK will be diagnosed this year and 12,000 will die from this disease. Encouragingly, she explained that 30 minutes of exercise every day can reduce the risk of breast cancer by 20% , giving us all the great incentive to SUP more!!!

Jordanna from the CrewRoom displayed a great display of SUP clothes including a great Standup for the Cure pink SUP jersey in a breathable bamboo and charcoal fabric (a MUST HAVE for all chic SUPers!!).

The happy sunny day was filled with laughter and hugs as participants took to the water with this wonderful new sport while sharing how breast cancer had touched them and their families. New friendships were forged when the day was capped by a magical SUP paddle tour of London's waterways as the group in pink paddled together through Regents Park to the London Zoo and back, lighting up the waterways with their headlights and luminous wrist bands when the sun set.

"We laughed, we cried and some of us fell in!" said Kristiana Thomas, SUP yoga instructor.

"Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special first event and we look forward to paddling together next year on the Serpentine in Hyde Park to once again "Have Fun and Save Lives" " said Judie Vivian, Founder of "Standup for the Cure.”

"I was proud to be asked by Judie to help develop this great event in London and found working with her very inspiring and motivating. A great team came together for the event, which made it fun and good to be part of. I'm looking forward to up scaling the event next year with the involvement of many people in the British and Worldwide SUP community" Paul Hyman, Active 360.
