SUP Company Signs Slater Trout

Slater Trout has been consistently a top finisher at most of the elite races around the world and continues his ascendency.

LAGUNA BEACH, California – Slater Trout is far from your average teenager. Florida born and raised and where he learned how to surf on the Gulf, Slater’s family moved to Maui when he was 10 where his eyes were first opened to the sport of SUP by his father Casey. Slater, now 15, was immediately hooked.  This young gun is on a huge roll and is here to stay. Soulful, incredibly driven, and a multi-talented athlete, Slater Trout is one of the most (if not THE MOST) sought after athletes in the SUP world.

Slater will catch you off guard with his humble demeanor and mature attitude, which can be attributed to some amazing parenting by his mom Jennifer and dad. At 6’2” and 180lbs, Slater gives paddlers twice his age a run for their money.  An honor roll student at a college prep school in Hawaii, and remains incredibly focused. Says SUP Company’s CEO Tommy Donnelly, “Slater is an incredibly well-rounded athlete. He is motivated, respectful to his friends and family, and trains just as hard as the big dogs. Slater may be young in age, but realizes that hard work is needed to succeed. He is a mentor to young and old. We are beyond stoked to have Slater as part of our growing ohana!”

Some of Slater’s largest accomplishments include: Trials winner at the Stand Up World Tour at Sunset Beach, Hawaii; the only racer under 18 invited to compete in the Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle Elite Division (2008, at 13 years old!); 1st Place at the 2010 Hennessey’s US Championships 14’ Class;  a 2nd place finish at the Second Annual Battle of the Battle 2009, Elite Division; 1st place 14’ Class and Overall Winner at The H20 Overdrive SUP CUP in Utah;  and most recently 2nd place at the NYC Sea Paddle 28-mile race!  Slater stays active off the water on his bike, snowboarding and swimming.

Stand Up Paddle Company has some big plans with Slater, named “2010 Junior of the Year” by The Stand Up Journal. SUP Co. will be hosting Slater Trout Teen Clinics twice yearly, spreading the word to teens about what SUP can do for a young individuals mind, body and spirit.   Slater will take part in bringing on SUPCO “Teen Ambassadors” nationwide and will be partnering with local high schools to encourage stand up paddling as a form of cross training and camaraderie. “I’m really excited about the opportunity to work with SUPCO.  Their vision for SUP fits me perfectly.  I’ve been wanting to get involved with a program that was focused on promoting SUP to kids, so when they came to me with plans for a teen program, I couldn’t say no.” states Slater. “Slater’s input is second to none,” says VP Dennis Nafisi. “I forget he is 15 when we are engaged in a conversation. Slater is witty, well-versed, and always has something poignant to bring to the table.”

Stand Up Paddle Company is 'Inspiring a Movement' and couldn’t be more pleased with the addition to the family. “When we brought Slater on board, we saw it was a TEAM… Slater, his mom, brother Tanner, dad and manager Ben Cortez. “There is strength in numbers; they all add a powerful component to this addition” states Marketing Director Jaime Donnelly. Keep your eyes peeled for the tall, handsome blond at the Rainbow Sandal’s Battle of the Paddle this weekend at Doheny State Beach. Slater will be competing in the Elite Race, Distance Race and on SUPCO’s relay team. GO SLATER!!
