SAINT LOUIS, Missouri - Last week SupConnect shared the news that on January 14th, 2013 extreme paddler Shane Perrin would start a KickStarter campaign to raise money for a 400+ mile ocean expedition and to promote organ and tissue donation. However, due to a glitch in working with the KickStarter program Shane and his team decided to work with GoFundMe, another platform that allows people to raise money.
At this point in time the GoFundMe campaign, Florida Everglades Challenge with Shane Perrin is LIVE and was able to raise $1,798 by 35 people in 2 days. The donation goal is set at $7500 ( a little higher than the KickStarter campaign), not to earn more more money for the expedition, but rather to do more to help others.
Shane is raising funds to cover the operating expenses associated with this expedition but any funds above and beyond will go toward purchasing new stand up paddleboards for kids or adults on dialysis or who have just received an organ or tissue donation.
To accomplish this goal, Shane Perrin is asking that the SUP community please send him your stories of people you know who are deserving and fit the above description by personally contacting him by email at: shaneperrin@gmail.com
In Shane's words, "This expedition is like none other in the Stand up Paddle boarding world. It starts with a 300 mile ocean expedition style race called the Florida Everglades Challenge http://www.watertribe.com/. It's an unsupported race that gives you 8 days or less to cover the 300 miles regardless of the conditions. The kicker is you have to be self sufficient for the entire 300 miles, no outside assistance. Typically the race is completed by sail power. It has never been completed by a SUP!"
After the race portion, Shane plans to continue SUPing all the way to Key West for a total of about 400 miles. All within 10 days time before having to return home to work. But that's not all, Shane will be digitally recording the entire experience which will become a 45-60 minute "achieve the impossible" documentary. Sponsors, however, will receive daily video and commentary during the race that non-sponsors won't see and will also be the first to see the final version of the film.
Shane stated, "Your part as a sponsor is to make the impossible possible. To make this expedition happen, I'm depending on you to be part of this unique journey!"
