SUP Surf & Wildlife Experience in Costa Rica 2025

PLAYA GUIONES, Costa Rica - Experience the perfect blend of SUP surf coaching and wildlife immersion in Costa Rica next year hosted by Travel With A Paddle from May 5-14, 2025. Hone your skills on perfect waves under expert guidance and connect with the diverse ecosystem.

Based in Playa Guiones, surfers will have access to multiple, uncrowded breaks where your coach, Beau Nixon, will help improve your technique by delivering in-water coaching and video analysis sessions. The trip is based from luxurious private bungalows nestled in the jungle, with access to a large pool where you can rejuvenate in a tranquil retreat space. A private chef will be on site to prepare delicious Blue Zone-inspired meals.

Whilst SUP surfing and coaching is at the heart of our trips, this special experience also caters for non-surfing partners and family. Wildlife experiences will be led by marine biologist, Clare Baranowski. Explore the numerous nature trails and local beaches, head out on a SUP safari, wander through the village shops, and restaurants and encounter the vibrant flora and fauna in one of the most beautiful surfing destinations in the world.

What Can You Expect?

SUP Surf Coaching
You will learn how to read waves, where and when to take off, how to make top turns and cutbacks, what to do with your paddle, the correct body positioning and learn more about which equipment is best suited to your riding style, plus so much more. Most days will start with an early morning SUP surf coaching session for those interested in progressing their skills. If the conditions and tides are more favorable for the afternoon, we will move the coaching session, but please feel free to surf and explore in your own time.

Video analysis sessions will take place periodically throughout the trip in a group environment so everyone can learn by watching not only their technique, but benefit from discussions with the other surfers too.

SUP surfers of all abilities and ages are welcome and your hosts will keep group numbers small so you can be sure to receive the highest level of coaching and personalized feedback to improve.

Delicious Meals
A light breakfast with fresh fruits, local coffee, tea, toast and spreads will be served each morning and is included in your stay. Lunch and dinner is also included and will be prepared by local chefs who are inspired by the Blue Zone cuisine.

Activities
Your hosts have carefully designed the perfect itinerary and chosen some of the best local activities to enjoy as a group. The following activities are included in your experience;

• Mangrove SUP/Kayak Tour: Paddle through the tranquil mangroves where you’ll witness an array of wildlife. This guided tour offers a peaceful and immersive experience in one of the country’s most unique ecosystems.
• Surf & Shopping Day Trip to Tamarindo: Enjoy a day trip to the bustling surf town of Tamarindo. On the way, surfers will explore more waves around the area.
• Catamaran Experience: Spend an afternoon sailing along the picturesque coastline on a luxurious catamaran. (4hr trip)
• Reforestation Tour: Participate in a meaningful reforestation tour where you’ll learn about local conservation efforts and help plant trees.

Alongside the exciting trips planned for you, there will be time to relax by the pool, read your favorite book, walk the beach at sunset or create your own little mini-adventure.

About The Coach
Take part in SUP surf coaching each day with world-renowned SUP surf coach, Beau Nixon. Beau provides expert coaching and video analysis to help improve your skills on the water, catch more waves and have more fun. Beau has competed on the world stage for SUP surfing and has been an active SUP surf coach for over 12 years, helping hundreds of paddlers improve their skills on the waves.

Onsite Marine Biologist
Clare Baranowski, an accomplished marine biologist, brings her expertise and passion for marine life to this trip. As a dedicated guide, Clare leads snorkeling adventures, wildlife encounters, and SUP safaris along the coast, offering guests an immersive experience in the region’s vibrant ecosystems. Her extensive knowledge and infectious enthusiasm make each excursion unforgettable, as she educates participants about the diverse marine species and coastal environments.
