Who is it for?
If you’re looking for an extremely stable, non-inflatable, fishing-specific board to paddle short distances then the Rackham from BOTE is worth a look. This stand up paddle (SUP) board comes in an EPS foam core construction which is durable and has its ups and downs. The board is very stable because of its 34 inch width and it has 3.33 lbs per foot, weighing a total of 46.6 lbs, making the board moderately heavy for its length of 14 feet. Its shape makes the Rackham a fishing-specific board to be used by SUP fishing enthusiasts. Its construction and shape combined best fit this board for short distances, around the beach and dock. Retailing at $2,349, the board is at a premium price point but is among the best that the brand has to offer.
First Impressions
On first impressions, the graphics and color are striking, the shape design is very thoughtful and the construction strikes as strong. The Rackham looks stunning with an exceptionally beautiful play on color and graphics, intended to be potent and yet with class. The shape design is unique and different from many of the other boards in the fishing category and the construction appears as durable. This paddle board is very difficult to carry since it weighs over 46 lbs but its capacity of 500 lbs allow you to load up this board with a ton of gear. The glide feels average which is to be expected since lightweight construction and speed-centric design are only marginally incorporated. The board comes with a ton of additions that are perfectly suited for SUP fishing. It has a paddle sheath which conveniently holds your paddle upright, ConnexSUP plugs, 2 fishing post holes, a cup holder, bottle opener, 2 through holes and 2 cooler tie downs. That’s a whole lotta extra awesomeness. After you put everything together the Rackham is a very stable board that everyone who wants to take a hand at SUP fishing should be able to enjoy.
