The 30th annual Santa Cruz Paddlefest was one for the books. The weather was perfect, waves consistent, and company incredible. Big thanks to Matt Hoff for all his hard work organizing and all the athletes who absolutely tore it up! The Werner Paddles team showed up in full force and paddled their hearts out at this year’s event. Werner released a nice recap of the event.
What do windsurfing, stand up paddle surfing and prone surfing have in common? Zane Schweitzer. Zane Schweitzer is an incredibly talented multisport athlete hailing from the island of Maui. Zane has grown up in the waters off the beautiful island and has grown to excel in a number of watersports including surfing, stand up paddling and windsurfing.
If you were on the fence about whether or not to take your yoga practice to the water, after watching this short film your decision will surely have been made. With the 2016 season for the Stand Up World Tour only weeks away from kicking off the first event, the Turtle Bay Women’s Pro, on the North Shore of Oahu, Starboard SUP athlete Iballa Moreno has been at home on the beautiful Canary Islands training and practicing for the season opener. And boy does she look ready.
Lookout 2016! Starboard’s Shakira Westdorp is coming in hot into the new year and with one thing on her mind: winning the Stand Up World Tour world title for 2016. Shakira had an incredible year in 2015 and placed second overall on the SUP World Tour and is looking to one-up herself this year.
El Niño has been kind to surfers this winter season. With what seems like back-to-back-to-back swells there is nonstop fun for the wave riding stand up paddlers. Pro stand up paddle athletes Kai Lenny (Naish) and Mo Freitas (Focus SUP) are just a couple of the guys that have been benefitting from these recent swells and they have been getting some time in at the infamous Peahi, a.k.a Jaws.
Paddling in the cold is worth it when it’s this beautiful. Watch as two paddlers take on Vladivostok, Russia and paddle near and on ice on their Red Paddle Co inflatable SUPs.
In 2015 SUP expeditioner Bart de Zwart set off on the trip of a lifetime where he traveled around the world in 27 days with friend and photographer Franz Orsi. The twosome flew around the world with inflatable SUPs from Starboard SUP to the corners of the world. Starting the trip off in the Pacific then heading to Asia, Africa, Europe and Central America, de Zwart and Orsi traveled to and met with remote civilizations with strong connections to the water.
From rivers to the sea, racing and surfing, Mo Freitas traveled the waterways and oceans in Japan for three weeks in September experiencing Japan in all its glory. While in Japan Mo competed in a few events, took home a victory and memories to last a lifetime. Mo just released an edit from his time in Japan, take a look at it in the video below.
Jared Munch isn’t letting the winter chill get to him. He’s been getting wet and staying busy on his SUP in the Minnesota where he lives. Jared has been catching a few waves on the lake and just sent in a couple videos. Check it out.
