Check out last week's SUP Yoga pose
Name of Pose: Ubhaya Padangusthasana / Big Toe Pose
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Body Points: Psoas major and spinal extensors work to maintain neutral alignment against the pull of gravity, the psoas major and iliacus flex the hips, the triceps and anconeus extend the elbows.
Benefits: This pose builds abdominal and core strength, as well as hip flexors and spine strength. Stimulates the kidneys, thyroid and prostate glands and intestines. Reduces stress and improves digestion.
Instruction:
-
- On inhale extend one leg, and then the other leg.
- Make a "V" shape with the body’s sit bones rooting down to the board.
- Find length in spine, expand the chest and straighten the legs.
- Most important remember to breathe.
- You can stay in this posture: this variation is called boat pose, or you can extend your hands towards your feet.
- Take your pointer fingers and middle finger and wrap them in-between your big toe.
To maintain stability and balance during the Big Toe Pose, your breathing should be restrained and focused.
