About Sandbridge Paddle Fest
The inaugural Sandbridge Paddle Fest was held in 2013 with a very strong community and competitor response. Adventure races have exploded with popularity over recent years, and there’s no better natural setup than the south end of Sandbridge Beach! This treasured scenic area offers up the perfect backdrop for competitors along its broad, sandy beaches, as well as ample parking and exposition space.
The spirit of the Sandbridge Paddle Fest & Expedition arises from a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles as well as environmental stewardship and appreciation for our area’s rich history. False Cape State Park is one of the last remaining undeveloped areas along the Atlantic coast. As the former home of Native Americans, the historic Wash Woods community and a Coast Guard lifesaving station, False Cape honors the hardy souls who made a living from the sea. In order to truly experience the nature and history of this unique and primitive setting, participants in the Surf & Adventure Expedition will stop at designated checkpoints throughout the park before returning to Little Island Park.
The Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Foundation (VBPRF) is a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of making a great community better. VBPRF exists to support Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation by raising funds, accepting gifts, and providing additional resources to assist in enhancing existing parks and recreation programs, services, facilities, and technology. Working together, we promote healthy lifestyles and protect our coastal environment to ensure all residents – regardless of their physical, social and economic circumstances – are able to access and enjoy all that parks and recreation has to offer.
