MAUI, Hawaii - Welcome to our new Athlete Training Program series. We are chatting with some of the fastest, strongest, and most fit SUP athletes in the world to find out what feeds their paddle engines. From their paddle routines and cross-training habits to diet regimens, recipes, and more, these athletes share the details of their daily grind. Next up, we have SUP surfer and racer Kody Kerbox.
Born and raised on the island of Maui, SIC Maui athlete Kody Kerbox grew up with near-perfect surfing conditions and downwind runs nearby, sparking his passion for waters ports at a young age. Today, he’s now competed professionally for over five years in both SUP surfing and SUP racing and clinched several medals along the way. Outside of racing, Kody is also a full-time student. His personal experiences with injury lead him towards a degree in Kinesiology where he studies the human body and functional movement in sports.

Paddle Plan
Kody’s paddle plan consists of sprint, interval, and long distance training sessions. He also prone paddles and SUP surfs in combination with his stand up paddle routine, getting in the water about 4-6 days per week.
Cross Training
When he’s not in the water, Kody will hop on a mountain or road bike, head to the soccer field, or - on Sundays - do some yard work for an extra wholesome cross-training workout.

Diet
After trying out a high-fat/low-carb diet in the 2016 season, Kody has now switched to a more balanced diet that includes plenty of protein, carbs, and fats. He has also eliminated supplements from his diet, and tries to get his vitamin intake from fruits and vegetable.
We will be sharing more in-depth details on Kody’s paddle plan and cross training habits as well as a few of his favorite recipes soon!
