Stand up paddle racers at the Waikiki Paddle Fest in 2012 getting ready for the Survivor's Race.
SAN DIEGO, California – The Supconnet Events Page is listing over 10 different SUP events taking place this week and weekend at multiple locations, from California and Oregon to Hawaii, North Carolina and beyond. With the rapid explosion of the sport in the last few years, paddleboarding has reached unimaginable boundries and SUP racing seems to be driving much of that.
Although only a small number of paddleboarders ever lineup to the start of a paddleboard race, the community involvement, mutual accountability, and the rejuvenating experience of feeling young and fit again is drawing droves to the stand up paddle race scene. However, the media generated by it, the coverage by local news outlets, and the enthusiasm of newbies who get inspired by such athletes is what is making much of the news and stoking the fire. People of all calibers are joining the paddleboarding ranks, regardless of age, sex, or background. And these local races and board demos only add to the SUP explosion. With such a busy weekend on hand for the paddleboard world, it seems that the high season for the sport has now arrived.
