WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, North Carolina - Big wave surfer and SUP pioneer, Dave Kalama, was asked to give an inspirational speech at the 2014 Carolina Cup. He started off by delivering a funny piece of news to the crowd that had gathered - he didn't have anything prepared. Just a story about his worst day of paddling. Ever. And as it turned out, this tale of almost bailing at a race after things went terribly wrong was about as inspirational as it gets. Especially if you're only just getting into training.
