SAN DIEGO, California - The 17th Annual Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge will be held this Saturday on January 26th in Mission Bay, San Diego, Ca. This consistently popular event is a great way for many stand up paddlers on the West Coast to start off the year and get the racing season under way.
Last year, in 2012, there were 270 stand paddlers who participated as compared to 170 the year before. Some of the new participants were kids who enjoyed their very own race, but many paddlers young and old alike were out racing for their very first time.
This year the race organizers are strongly encouraging all paddlers to come back and bring new stand up paddlers with them. However, they are also asking that as many people as possible pre-register to eliminate delays on race day!
There are also changes this year to the lunch system. This year lunch will be available with menu items beginning at $5.00 which is separate from the race entry fee. According to the Hanohano / Paddleguru Website, "The new lunch format allows us to account for the increased number of mouths to feed while keeping your race fee below $25.00..."
