Local Paddlers Share Their Experience With Great Whites

LOS ANGELES, California - Last week we shared a video showing a juvenile great white shark on patrol at el Porto in Manhattan Beach. This happened during a spate of absolutely incredible weather along the So Cal drag, when lineups from San Diego to Central Cali were packed.

Despite our preconceived fears of white pointers, there was nothing aggressive or threatening about the shark's movements. That said - we would still have run on water to get back to shore. Two local paddle surfers at el Porto, Adam Taylor and Ryan H Harris, shared their experiences surfing with great whites with us.

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a paddle...except for the 3-4 juvenile great white sharks that were circling the lineup. They didn't seem to care that we were there and weren't aggressive, they just made falling off a bit of a scare!

For the last year and a half at my local break in Southern California we have had increasingly more frequent shark sightings. These are all juvenile great whites. Our. Local crew has counted about 4-5 different sharks! I've seen these guys from 4'-9'...there's no way I'm taking a shortboard out with a 9' shark nearby!
