The iconic Sundial Bridge in Redding

Chris Koerner, from ULI Boards and this year's SUP Southern California rep for the event said, "I did this on an ULI last year. They're making a big push to get SUPs involved more for 2014 and have added board classes and a SUP relay division. This is a beautiful paddle with very little boat traffic, tons of wildlife, and a couple easily navigated mellow whitewater sections. It's very well organized and with three checkpoints to pick up food & drink it's easy to do self-supported."

About The Sacramento River

California’s longest river, the Sacramento flows south from Mt. Shasta through Oak woodlands, rolling hills, and open plains with views of Mount Lassen to the East and the Yollo Bolly Wilderness to the west. The wide river bed accommodates reliable flows from 8,000 up to 20,000 cliffs and above, yet remains a well mannered giant due to the low gradient. Largest rapids are class II at most, though current can be swift. The mild climate, sweeping vistas, easy access points and reliable flow combine to make this a wonderful venue for paddle sport of all sorts, accommodating the experienced marathoner and the first timer as well.

About Rivers For Change

Our mission is to connect individuals, communities, and organizations to rivers. We envision a world where people and communities are active stewards of river systems with a holistic understanding of their interconnectedness and interdependence. Through the adventure of paddling a river from source to sea, engaging communities along the way through public paddling days and river cleanups, working with youth on stewardship, and collecting scientific data along our expeditions, we bring these rivers directly into people’s lives, connecting them with not only where their water comes from, and how they can use these resources responsibly, but with the knowledge that we are all interconnected through these waterways. We aim to invoke a spirit of adventure while exploring threatened rivers in order to inform and inspire individuals and communities to take positive action in addressing the well-being of their watersheds.
