A family enjoying a beautiful paddle along a lake
SAN DIEGO, California - The more you look around, the more you see not only the serious paddler out training, but you’ll see families paddling together. Mostly at Bay’s and flatwater, which makes it easier for the kids.
It’s not only a fun way to spend together as a family, but you and your kids are getting exercise as well. When the kids are little, it’s fun to put your little one on the nose of your board and paddle. This gives you a little extra challenge with stability and weight but it gives your child a nice relaxing view of the water and an appreciation of paddling.
Once old enough your kids can paddle alongside you. Make sure to have them on a stable, wide board and make sure to check the laws in your area for PFD rules and regulations. Some areas consider a SUP board a vessel and will require everyone to have a PFD. Some areas just require children 13 and younger to wear a PFD.
Grab the kids and go paddling!
