SAN DIEGO, California - Spring time equals fresh and new. There will be plenty of fresh and new equipment at the 3rd Annual Standup Roundup Flatwater Festival and
Boardworks Knockout Race. Top manufacturers will be on hand with new 2011 boards and gear for the public to demo -- absolutely free! "The mission of the Standup Roundup is get people on the water in a very comfortable relaxing atmosphere, the sport is growing exponentially on the flatwater arenas of America, " said festival director Scott Bass. "No waves, no currents, no drama, just flatwater fun, with expert instruction, all for free. Come paddle with us!" The Standup Roundup Flatwater Festival takes place Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Mission Bay's Bonita Cove. Paddling enthusiasts from up and down the California coastline will be on hand to try out new boards and gear from Boardworks, Rogue SUP, Graywhale, Kings Paddle Sports and many other exhibitors. In addition, the Boardworks Knockout Race will again test the ability of the sports top paddlers with a $1K cash prize on the line in this unique winner-take-all battle. The Boardworks Knockout Race starts off with a 5K qualifier, and the first three placers from the Stock, 12' 6" and Unlimited divisions (respectively) will then vie for the $1000 in a unique race course that is sure to Knockout a few egos! We have many surprises in store for the final run for the $1K purse. Men and women are invited to participate. Last year's champions, Chuck Patterson and Emily Merrill, are expected to defend their Boardworks Knockout titles. With $1K on the line, why wouldn't they? If you've ever wanted to try the fastest growing water sport in the world, Standup Paddling, now is your chance. A free, open-to-the-public, flat-water festival known as the Standup Roundup will take place on Sunday, May 01, 2011 at Mission Bay's Bonita Cove. Over 20 of the SUP industries top manufacturers will be on hand with the latest and greatest boards, paddles and equipment. "The race format is unique and exciting to watch. The nine qualifers ( from the 5K) will sprint 100 yards and the last place finisher gets knocked out, hence the name Knockout race," explained race director Dan Van Dyck. "The remaining racers then sprint the course again, and again the last place racer gets knocked out. And so it goes until we a have a two paddlers left.
