SANTA CRUZ, California - Day one of the Santa Cruz Paddle Fest kicked off this morning. Round 1 of the Surftech Shootout got underway at Steamer Lane in glassy 3-5 foot waves, with a slight breeze expected to pick up this afternoon. The swell charts and weather forecasts are looking great for a full weekend of intense action at one of the most anticipated events of the year. Saturday afternoon sees a steep spike in swell, which is expected to fill in for Sunday, when the finals will be held.
