5. Movember Madness Begins
~ HEAT SCORE {27} ~ November 1, signalled the start of a very important and serious month for men around the world: Movember. For the next thirty days, people young and old old will raise awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, male depression and other men’s health issues by wearing a manly sign of observance above their top lips. It’s not always a gracious affair and many a boyfriend, husband and partner will sacrifice their sex appeal for the cause, but it’s a worthwhile endeavor that we’re proud to support. This year our friends over at Boardworks have put together an X-Men-like team of facial landscapers, who’ll be growing their mustaches for cash, raising money for cancer research, with open invitation to anybody who’d like to join their tribe.

3. Corinth Canal SUP Crossing Video
~·HEAT SCORE {37}·~ Last week we reported the results of the third annual Hellenic Cup, which took place at Corinth Canal on October 20. For those of you who read about it, thought it sounded cool and wanted to see more, this great clip and event roundup has just been released by the event organizers, giving us all a better, closer look at the action that went down. As far as as Stand Up Paddle race destinations go, this has to be one of the most beautiful and historical of its kind. It’s also worth noting how well the European paddle community pulled together to make the event possible.

Your Women's World Champ - Nicole Pacelli
~·HEAT SCORE {49}·Brazillian Nicole Pacelli was crowned the first ever Women's Stand Up World Tour Champion at the La Torche Pro in France last weekend. The event was her final hurdle in her campaign, and after getting knocked out in the quarter finals she was forced to sweat out the final stages of competition. This is a milestone for the SUP community and a great acgievement for a great competitor. Oh, and Kai Lenny won the men's event.

1.RIP Buttons Kaluhiokalani
~·HEAT SCORE {50}·~ The world of surfing and Stand Up Paddling said a very tearful goodbye, as Montgomery ‘Buttons’ Kaluhiokalani, passed away last week, leaving a gaping hole in his place. As a young man he redefined performance surfing, incorporating skate-inspired moves at a time when nobody thought it was possible. His style and skill made him a surf legend, but he is a much bigger hero to his family and friends in Hawaii, and to all of them we are deeply sorry. For the last few years he has been teaching surf Stand Up Paddling on the North Shore, where he was happiest.
