DESTIN, Florida - Meet Matt Wise, the Floridian super-grom who is starting to make a name for himself on the paddle racing circuit. This week Supconnect asked him 10 questions about his training schedule, daily living habits and preferences when it comes to ordinary things.
DESTIN, Florida - Meet Matt Wise, the Floridian super-grom who is starting to make a name for himself on the paddle racing circuit. At only eighteen years old, he's already racked up an impressive list of results, including first place finishes in the Under 17 division at the Hennessey WPA World Championships in Las Vegas, the Orange Bowl Paddle Championship in Miami and the Carolina Cup SUP Race in Wrightsville Beach. In 2013 he also qualified and competed in both the 2013 Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle elite technical race and elite distance race in Dana Point, getting his first taste of competition against the world's best. This week we threw a different challenge at him, asking 10 questions about his life, training schedule and opinions.
Supconnect: Where were you born and where did you grow up?
Matt Wise: I was born in Destin, Florida and have for the most part lived there all my life!
Supconnect: Can you tell us about when you first got your feet wet and decided to pursue a lifestyle in water sports?
Matt Wise: I have always been on the water since day 1, but I started surfing when I was 5 and have loved the water since.
Supconnect: What do you do when you're not on a SUP?
Matt Wise: When I'm not a SUP I'm either at school or sleeping!
Supconnect: Where is your local paddling spot - can you tell us a bit about it?
Matt Wise: My local spot I paddle at is my backyard in the Choctawhatchee Bay, always out there for training or social paddling.
Supconnect: Where is your favorite SUP travel destination and why?
Matt Wise: My favorite SUP spot is Cabo down in Mexico!

Matt Wise: Right now my training schedule is swim practice in the morning and Oc2 paddling/weights in the afternoon.
