SAYULITA NAYARIT, Mexico - This week we caught up with up and coming SUP ripper and Sayulita local, Karen Jacobson. She has been blowing up the Supconnect community pages for some time now with photos of ripping at her homebreak, which piqued our curiosity about her training schedule, favorite surf spots and more. Enjoy the interview...

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. / Sayulita Nayarit, Mexico.

Can you tell us about when you first got your feet wet and decided to pursue a lifestyle in water sports?

I have always had a feeling for the ocean, and have always loved sports. So couldn’t ask for any better lifestyle than one that combines exercise and nature at the same time...

Where is your favorite SUP travel destination and why?

Hawaii, because there is infinite waves to choose from and it’s beautiful everywhere you turn to and see..

What is your training schedule like?

Depending on the waves I try to Surf & SUP Surf as much as I can everyday, but aside on that, I run every morning, next to my early paddle session, and I eather do Yoga/Pilates/Crossfit in the afternoon if not paddling again, I get coached by Ryan Helm professional Stand Up Paddleboarder.

Who do you enjoy following and watching in the SUP world today?

I admire my coach Ryan, he is so focused on everything he does, he tries so hard and he gets it. He’s a complete real athlete in every way. Mo Freitas I admire for using such small SUP Boards and still ripping, that’s kind of like what I do riding a 6.7.. Kai Lenny for all his gnarly wave riding… Nicole Pacelli for her good style and big wave charging. Izzi Gomez for being such a young ripper.
