Maui To Host 2016 Stand Up World Series Next Week

MAUI, Hawaii - It is that time of year when the World Series returns to Hawaii for what has become one of the most dramatic battles of the year: timed to perfection during a period when consistent, strong tradewinds are still in effect and winter ground swells are starting to show, the World Series Finals provides one of the most spectacular showcases imaginable for the Sport of Stand up Paddling.
In 2016, the Waterman League will be bringing this show to the Stand Up Paddling mecca of the North Shore of Maui, where the World Class downwind run from Maliko Gulch to Kanaha Beach Park will take center stage for the Long distance race, while the World Series Sprint Racing Course will unfold at the iconic Ho'okipa Beach Park.
However it is not just for the Pros, as Maliko's famous downwind run is open to everyone, a chance to take part in an international competition featuring athletes from all over the world. There are age divisions celebrated for the Open Class, Youth Racing and Youth Clinics down at Kanaha, all coming together with the Professional level competition for a celebration of the sport on Maui's iconic North Shore.
It will be a full weekend of action for Stand Up Paddling on Maui, so make sure not to miss it. Here is the detailed schedule below:
- Thursday 13th October: 5pm - 7pm: Meet & Greet at Adventure Sports Maui in Kahului
- Friday 14th October: 6:30pm: Opening event at Rock & Brews in Paia
- Saturday 15th October: Youth Clinic & Competition at Kanaha / Maliko - Kanaha Downwind Race, plus live Music
- Sunday 16th October: Youth & Open Surfing Exhibitions (am) / World Series Sprint Racing in the afternoon at Ho'okipa Beach Park / Awards event at Maui Brewing Company
