Standup for the Cure Returns to Seattle

SEATTLE, Washington – As Standup for the Cure 501c3 writes fundraising checks to Susan G Komen Orange County, CA and Susan G Komen Michigan they are preparing to bring their unique event to the Pacific Northwest for the 2nd year. After seven successful years, Standup for the Cure, alongside its national sponsors, Boardworks Surf, and Barefoot Wine, announce Standup for the Cure, Seattle to benefit the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. The team, led by Executive Director Dan Van Dyck, will be hosting the event at Lake Sammamish State Park on August 25, 2018 as the third location in a series of nationwide events aimed at expanding Standup for the Cure’s mission to raise money and awareness for early breast cancer detection, research, treatment and education.
“Standup for the Cure’s focus is to introduce non-paddlers to the healthy lifestyle of standup paddling, while building a supportive community bound by the desire to rid the world of breast cancer,” stated Executive Director Dan Van Dyck.
The Standup for the Cure Event features instruction from top paddle board expert Zane Schweitzer as well as FREE breast cancer risk counseling by Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (2018 Presenting Partner), live music with Whitney Monge’ and a health and fitness expo. Attendees will also enjoy a great festival with catered lunch by Trapper’s Sushi. KOMO TV and Radio Group, Standup for the Cure’s Media sponsor, leads the visionary family of partners which includes Eastside FC (Gold Sponsor), Barefoot Wine and Bubbly (Gold Sponsor), Alaska Airlines (Silver Sponsor), Georgetown Brewery, Maui Jim, Tito’s Vodka and Cascade Mountain Tech (Supporting Sponsors).
"I've been following Standup for the Cure for years but this year their mission became personal,” said Mike Ferreri, Sports Anchor for KOMO 4 TV. “My wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer last year and it was our goal to get her back on the water cancer free. I am happy to say my wife is back paddle boarding again and will be racing in our 2nd Standup For The Cure event in Seattle, she is back on the water and cancer free in large part because of early detection. Breast cancer is most treatable when found early and Standup for the Cure has developed a unique, community building event to ensure that more of our family and friends get screened on a regular basis. - Events: Kid's race, 5K expert and Fun “Sea of Pink” paddle
