SCHARBEUTZ, Germany - A beautiful day greeted paddlers last weekend in Scharbeutz for the 7th stop of the 2023 Euro Tour. The racing was tight and intense for both the men's and women's races.
Men's Race
Australia's Michael Booth had a game plan coming into the race and when the entire field made a mistake on buoy #2 and went directly to the 3rd one Booth continued doing the course on his own gaining an unsustainable lead and finished a minute clear of everyone, in a race where every second mattered and secured the overall win.
The Japanese powerhouse Shuri Araki finished an impressive second place after dominating the second heat and coming in first of the lost pack in the first one. In third place it was surely the best performance of Spain's Aaron Sanchez in a pure display of force at one of the biggest events of the year. Closing his best result too was Italy's Riccardo Rossi in 4th with two very consistent heats on his favorite race format. Closing out the Top 5 was Frenchman Noic Garioud edging out his teammate, USA's Connor Baxter by a mere two seconds.

Women's Race
The women's racing was pretty drama free but very intense and close. Spain's Esperanza Barreras just refuses to loose this season and won both heats for the overall win; no one can call her a long distance paddler any more as she's proven her skills in sprints.
In second, Duna Gordillo continued her stellar performance with very consistent heats. Third place finisher Cecilia Pampinella closed two identical runs where the Junior showed that she’s one of the best at any start line. The ever consistent Anna Tschirky finished in fourth and continued her amazing run in front of USA's Fiona Wylde in 5th with a great second heat barely edging out teammate Alba Frey.
